Re: [Basic] Advantage of the Week (#48): Enhanced Move
For someone with Basic Speed of 5 and Flight hence a Base move (Air) 10
Air Move 10 (~20 mph) Enhanced move (Air) 1 = 20 yd/s (~41 mph) Enhanced move (Air) 2 = 40 yd/s (~82 mph) Enhanced move (Air) 3 = 80 yd/s (~164 mph) Enhanced move (Air) 4 = 160 yd/s (~327 mph) Enhanced move (Air) 5 = 320 yd/s (~655 mph) [Transonic] Enhanced move (Air) 5.5 = 480 yd/s (~982 mph) [Supersonic] Enhanced move (Air) 6 = 640 yd/s (~1,309 mph) [Supersonic] Enhanced move (Air) 6.5 = 960 yd/s (~1,964 mph) [Supersonic] Enhanced move (Air) 7 = 1,280 yd/s (~2,618 mph) [Supersonic] Enhanced move (Air) 7.5 = 1,920 yd/s (~3,927 mph) [Hypersonic] Enhanced move (Air) 8 = 2,560 yd/s (~5,236 mph) [Hypersonic] Enhanced move (Air) 8.5 = 3,840 yd/s (~7,855 mph) [High-Hypersonic] Enhanced move (Air) 9 = 5,120 yd/s (~10,473 mph) [High-Hypersonic] Enhanced move (Air) 9.5 = 7,680 yd/s (~15,709 mph) [High-Hypersonic] Enhanced move (Air) 10 = 10,240 yd/s (~20,945 mph) [Reentry speeds] |

Re: [Basic] Advantage of the Week (#48): Enhanced Move
I think the first one is really just one or a few individual's interpretation of a single set of footprints. It's just not plausible for some parasite riddled untrained, poorly nourished, stone age person to out-sprint Usain Bolt over uneven muddy ground.
The second article is about what's technically possible for our form, not what human tissues could realistically do. Remember it takes about 4 times the power to run 2 times as fast given the same weight. There are some imperfections in Bolt's physique for optimal speed, so I don't think he's at the human maximum. But I don't think he's that far off. His average speed for the 100 meter was under 24 mph, and instantaneous max was under 28 for very short period optimal conditions. 35 is not just 7 mph faster. It would require him to produce over 50% more power without gaining a single ounce.

If more agility is really required, obviously the character would buy more Base Move and less Enhanced Move, at a correspondingly higher price.

Of course the power can get you the sound barrier but apart from forcing air into your lungs at that speed as well as not being able to keep your eyes open may be a problem. The friction the force would most likely tear your face off. Next step is to protect the runner from all this force. But it is easier to limit it to 4 levels, which should also apply to any other doubling multipliers. Of course any character can get some enhanced move from: bikes, roller skates, and skate boards. |
