Asymptomatic Carriers [Horror]
One possibility for horror campaigns is the existence of asymptomatic carriers of supernatural plagues. In some cases, these individuals will resisted the plague and will never manifest symptoms, but they can transmit the disease. In other cases, these individuals will only become symptomatic under certain circumstances, but they can transmit the disease until then. In yet other cases, the carrier will only transmit the disease to any children that they bear or sire after infection, whom may become carriers themselves (usually until a triggering event).
For example, you could have a vampirism plague that only causes its carriers to become symptomatic the night after they cause another human being to risk possible death from an injury that they caused. Until then, they are asymptomatic, but they are capable of passing on the vampirism plague to anyone that they have unprotected intimacy with and, if a woman, to any children that they bear or that they nurse. After they become a vampire, they are capable of passing on the vampirism plague to their victims, who become carriers until they cause another human being to risk possible death from an injury that they caused if they contract the vampirism plague. Have you used carriers of supernatural plagues in your games? How did your players react when they realized that they could be a carrier of the supernatural plague? How did their PCs treat NPCs that they suspected carried the supernatural plague? |
