No. A drug dealer is not nouveau riche. He's a criminal. And that is a whole different cultural location. Paris Hilton is nouveau riche, Al Capone was a criminal with money. They don't get treated the same.

But one of the other things that is important to note, is that Status is not exclusively tied to Wealth, it can also be tied to Rank.

Let's say I create a person from an Average family (Status 0), who joins a Free Trader, and though hard work, becomes the captain of the ship (Rank 3, grants +1 to Status) A Status 1 person needs to be Comfortable, but because the Status comes through Rank, the Captain doesn't need to pay the extra cost of living, so there is a discrepancy between status and rank, but the Captain isn't cash poor.

I like the system the way it is.

Bill Gates is certainly nouveau riche...but just because you got your money through Daddy doesn't get one into the halls of Old Money. Conrad Hilton (the Hotelier) wasn't old money and only started making his money in the 1920s...are the Hilton's now Old Money? It is questionable, I doubt they are members of either the Mayflower Society, the Daughters of the Revolution or the Daughters of the Confederacy. The quick way to tell would be to check to see if they are listed in the Social Registry.

But the Social Registry only has 25k listings...and very few of them are Californians...well, very few of them are from anywhere other than the East Coast. Inheriting wealth isn't enough to get you into American aristocracy.
