Re: Traveller 5 anyone?
I found the material to be long on crunch in the wrong places and short on important details (like at least the major alien races presented in chargen, or default weapons and armor, or small craft, etc...). The entire chargen sequence feels like an outline for another book, though I guess the entire book does feel like that.
With all the GURPS Traveller material I've got, not to mention the extremely handy GCA, I'll probably just use this as an excuse to update some things to 4e and run GURPS Traveller instead. The book exterior looks nice, the insides, especially the art, leave a fair amount to be desired. The cards and the coins are neat. Just wish it didn't feel like a beta copy. At least the pdf can be patched, so to speak. |

Re: Traveller 5 anyone?
I mean as far as just the core books go. Not all the splat books that come after.

Re: Traveller 5 anyone?
I have been compiling a list of reviews of T5 over the past month or so on another board that I may as well post here too, to answer the OP's question:
from the TML: Doug Berry explaining why he didn't like it: http://lists.travellercentral.com/pi...ay/043429.html http://lists.travellercentral.com/pi...ay/043522.html Another reader chips in: http://lists.travellercentral.com/pi...ay/043443.html A 'positive' review, albeit one that doesn't really show much evidence of having tried out any of the systems: http://zho.berka.com/2013/05/19/t5-review/ A generally negative review from a backer on Circvs Maximvs: http://www.circvsmaximvs.com/forum/s...ve-Traveller-5 Another opinion on Reddit: http://www.reddit.com/r/rpg/comments/1ddwxn/ A detailed review with character generation on penultimateharn: http://www.penultimateharn.com/blog/?p=115 First impressions: http://www.doucheydm.com/traveller-5-first-impressions/ Another review from the MGT boards: http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/...p?f=89&t=56065 Not so much a review as an opinion from someone based on the reviews that he's read so far... http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/...56067&sid=4221 There is a review of T5 in the June 2013 issue of Freelance Traveller: http://www.freelancetraveller.com/magazine/index.html A detailed review on RPGnet (he gave it a 2/5 for Style, 2/5 for Substance) http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/15/15885.phtml There are other opinions on CotI's T5 board, but there's not much point in posting them unless you're a member there since you won't be able to read any of the discussion. Go take a look if you're interested. Make of all that what you will. I've included all the reviews I could find (I've still probably missed some though). Also, I'm just posting this for information purposes, not to start any more arguments - if you have any critcisms of the reviews, take it up with the reviewers, not me.

Re: Traveller 5 anyone?
Tell you what. I've been on since the beta and I'll put up a new thread with a system by system breakdown.

Re: Traveller 5 anyone?
Do we really need that here though? (and is it even really appropriate for this board?). There are plenty of 'system by system breakdowns' in the reviews I posted after all.

Re: Traveller 5 anyone?
I think I'll give it a miss and stick with earleir versions and Gurps Traveller.

Re: Traveller 5 anyone?
Usually "Rules" is everything that isn't "Setting Material" (aka Fluff). If that's what you meant by your question...
