Default [Spaceships] Laser Rocket thrusts different

Laser Rockets are defined in both Spaceships 7 & 8, and I've just noticed that the stats are a bit different in each.

SS8 gives a thrust of 3G, while SS7 (Divergent & Paranormal Tech) uses 2G, same delta-v, costs & fuel costs.

Only 1 ship in either book uses a laser rocket, the Mercury HLV, it's stats match the thrust given in the same book (SS8 Transhuman Spacecraft), but it's 3rd edition writeup had sAccel 2.59, which suggests to me that the 3G per system is an erratum (2 systems at 2G or 1 system at 3G are decent fits, but not 2 systems at 3G)

Does anyone know for sure what's going on here? Typo, deliberate difference between the Transhuman Space setting and the generic version, or Space Elves messing with my mind again?

Also SS8 doesn't list what size external laser is needed, which is odd.

I think SS8 is a special case. It's a set of ships for a specific campaign setting (Transhuman Space), largely converted from existing 3rd edition material. It would not greatly surprise me if the statistics for similar or even the same engine differed between SS8, and the more generic SS books.
