Eh, they're all fine. I'd add really tall humans who developed in low gravity.

I don't have an issue with any of these, although I will note I'd prefer for the Nephilim to be able to more freely adjust their size between SM+1 and SM+3 (either through being SM+1 with Growth 2, or SM+3 with Shrinking 2; I lean more toward the latter, with SM+3 being their "native" size).

Unless I suddenly get inspired, the poll will remain open over the weekend. I might have a Question about the types of Jaffa, or the Teal'c expy specifically, on Monday.

Re: [Space/Thaumatology] Stargate: Fantasy - Worldbuilding thread
G'annan of Frolec Question I
'G'annan of Frolec' is the name I've been using for the Teal'c expy for our sample SG team. Like Teal'c, he's an alien, well-traveled, and probably serves as the team's designated Physical Security agent, as well as helping with Local Diplomacy (see this post for organization details). He isn't necessarily a Jaffa, though, or might be a different sort of Jaffa, since we seem to have at least two. The listed possibilities leave out options that I think would be too expensive (High Elf, Nephil), or especially inconvenient on Earth (cyclops, cat-person, troll), though some would be mildly inconvenient. Some of them will trigger new votes to narrow down the broader options. 1. Jaffa (if this wins, there will be a new vote to determine whether he's basically a showverse Jaffa, or one of the alternate Jaffa for Varyon's Goa'Uld, or some other type). 2. Extraterrestrial human. 3. Werebeast, or other reasonable-point-cost shapeshifter with a human form. 4. Elf, probably DF style; just not a High/Mythic Elf. Might have been in service to a High Elf instead of a Goa'Uld, possibly even being an official liaison. 5. Dwarf, or other SM-1 humanoid Little Person. 6. Hill giant (SM+1, so could pretend to be a human with gigantism). 7. Vampire (less inconvenient than a troll because a vampire might look human, and not all vampires need to avoid sunlight; will need a second vote to determine what the base race is). 8. Something else (please specify). Please remember to include the number of your preferred option when you vote. ******* Answer: 4 has six votes and wins, 1 has four votes, 2 has three, and 5, 6, and 7 have two each; there were also two votes for 8 that are effectively meaningless, since 8 requires that you specify what 'something else' you're voting for.

Hey, leave that for nniuQ sanoJ. -- I dunno; I think to match the show the team alien needs to have some risk of being revealed as an alien for Earth missions, even if that only happens if the hat comes off. So 1 or 4 probably work best. |

Re: [Space/Thaumatology] Stargate: Fantasy - Worldbuilding thread
I think G'annan of Frolec being a Jaffa is the most appropriate here, for #1.#2 (extraterrestrial human) and #4 (lesser Elf) would also probably be doable, so long as he was some sort of high-rank-but-unwilling thrall to one of the False Gods running amok in the setting.
As for avoiding being outed as an alien, I think in the original show avoiding anyone from seeing the "flesh pouch" on his belly would have been more necessary than concealing his head emblem. When he had the weird infection that was turning him into a bunch of bugs and escaped Cheyenne Mountain to live for a short while in the streets, the people who saw him just thought the head emblem was some sort of body art - one even asked him where he got it, because they thought it looked cool. Covering it just prevented him from standing out (I believe having a clean-shaven head was also rather uncommon in the US at least during the early seasons, so wearing a cap of some sort concealed that trait as well), which could have lead to further inquiries that might have compromised security.

Re: [Space/Thaumatology] Stargate: Fantasy - Worldbuilding thread
There's a long history of characters avoiding this trivially including a surprising array of Spock-ish headwear.
In an (extremely good) episode involving time travel to 1969 there was a wig that made him look like a rather buff Jimi Hendrix and he also just told a person he met that his emblem stood for "subjugation to false gods" which go him a reply of "Cool.". Many sorts of small signs of alienicity can be covered up with a "wink wink nudge nudge".
