DF Boxed Set supported in GCA?
Will the boxed set be supported by GURPS Character Assistant like most other GURPS products? I'll probably buy the set regardless, but it would be nice to be able to speed up character creation. The group I'm trying to get into GURPS has two players with short relatively attention spans. They barely made it through AD&D 2e character creation, and I doubt they would get through GURPS character creation if not for the Character Assistant.

Re: DF Boxed Set Question
I don't use GCA, so I don't know. But if your characters don't like character creation, you could always create their characters for them after asking them a series of questions:
1) What class would you like to be? You can be an x, y, or z. 2) What race would you like to be? You can be an x, y, or z. 3) You should have some disads, would you like x, y, or z. Give them no paper, you just jot down all the notes and make the character's for them. Though...if they really don't like mechanics, have you thought about running something in a rules like system for them? |

Re: DF Boxed Set Question
Also keep in mind that character creation with the DFRPG is easier than with AD&D, with much less scattered tables to check out and spaces to fill in the character sheet.

Thanks to JMason for filling in the details from my vague recollection.

Anyhow just let me add that the DFRPG advantage/disadvantage/skill list is, instead, very manageable. It seems to me that the aforementioned article is more attractive having the GURPS DF sub-line in mind, since it requires to consult the Basic Set with the longer lists of traits.

Re: DF Boxed Set Question
That isn't really how "Pointless Slaying and Looting" works but is actually a fair description of the default way to make a DFRPG character with the templates. You might want to check out the blog post I did a while back with an example Pointless delver to see how different that system is.

Note that it actually isn't trivial to adapt this system GCA, since it doesn't use points at all. It probably also isn't really necessary because pointless characters are much less complicated than regular GURPS characters. |
