There's 26 pages of magic system, embedded within a four-chapter selective condensation of the GURPS rules for use in realistic-comedic fantasy.

GURPS rules for realistic-comedic fantasy?
That statement may have sold me on it even if I wasnt already inclined.

Does this version of the Discworld book have Paul Kidby art and/or any direct oversight/contribution by Terry Pratchett?

Also, at what particular junction would an flgs do pre-orders? Is that something they'd already be doing now? When a concrete release date is set?

Dont know about the Art but I have been following the project and it had his oversight, just too bad its going to see print after his death.

Most of the art from the former edition is carrying over, so yes, there's plenty of Kidby's work, I'm very happy to say. One or two pieces that weren't in the first edition, even.

Terry had sight of the work in progress, but I don't think that he was in a frame of mind to assess it in excessive detail. To a certain extent that got delegated to his agent, but I'm also happy to say that he trusted me after the first edition.

I stopped by my FLGS today and preordered Discworld but Mars Attacks wasnt in the system yet. Based on pricing I think its a hardback.

So, if they're being printed now, when might they actually arrive in the shops?

That's great! I'll definitely be picking it up at some point, then.

I went to my FLGS to put out a reservation for it today.
Told the guy at the register the book is reported as literally at the printers.
He laughed and said he heard that before, but he put my name on a reservation list anyway.
The hype is real.

Most likely some time later in the year (Q4). We'll be able to narrow that down more once they're back in the U.S. through customs.
