This is what would concern me, if I were the GM. I don't have the book this is in, so I can't comment on the spell itself, but it sounds like a character out in the wilderness can cast this if he's around a lot of vegetation to get a substantial quantity of DR. That's probably fine, but...

...it is useful as actual armor. In a fantasy campaign, my inclination would be to allow someone to have a very slightly magical suit of living armor (say, leather armor that bleeds if cut or wood/bark armor which grows the occasional tiny twigs and leaves) as a perk. It's basically a matter of style, not a real benefit, so the cost would be trivial. However, it sounds like this is a way to circumvent what I assume is the intent of the spell, giving you access to superior DR at more or less any time, not just in the conditions for which the spell was originally conceived.

Having said that, GURPS Dungeon Fantasy 8 (p. 35) has a type of armor made from somewhat magical living lichen, which may suit your purposes.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I'll look into it some more and speak with my GM about it and let everyone know what we come up with.

If it weren't Dungeon Fantasy I would be concerned, but such loophole-seeking is part of the essence of DF.
