Hey everyone.

We aren't quite ready to kick things off yet, but I'm going to put up the Torn Victor IC thread.

I'm just going to be wetting people's whistles with some news articles about some in-game events that happen between January 2015 and the start of the actual campaign.

I'm going to ask that you all refrain from posting in the IC thread just yet. I want to make sure the characters are finished and until after I get the OOC thread up.

Look for the first post to show up tonight.

Hi!

Sorry it took a bit longer than I thought it would. Would you mind taking a look at my character sheet as I have it so far? I know there are things that need to be fixed with it but I have no idea what to do.

Thanks!

So it looks like you've listed the base build and then chosen the US Army Special Forces career. Then you've listed all the sub-specialties of that (Communications through Intelligence). But that's too expensive (it adds up to over 400 points and you only have 380), and in any case the instructions were to pick only one or two specialities. If you can pick your specialties that will help narrow it down. (FWIW, we already have one Advanced Medic and one Intelligence, though you can of course overlap.)

Then you need to list all the languages and cultural familiarities that you want to have. The base build includes:

Cultural Familiarity (USA) [0]
Language (Native-English) [0]
Cultural Familiarity (CHOICE) [1]
Language (Native-CHOICE) [6]
Language (Accented-CHOICE) [4]

And the Special Forces career includes:

Add one additional Cultural Familiarity [1] and Language (Accented) [4] of choice

I think I recall TheOneRonin saying you could make a language adjustment. Let's see:

For the base template, change Native Language English to Hebrew and Cultural Familiarity US to Israel. I'll be fine with letting you add Language: English at Accented level for free.

So if you make all those decisions, that'll be a start...

Thanks ammulder. You beat me to it.

Ladyarcana55, I also sent you a PM that explains the same thing as ammulder's post, but with a little more detail.

Let me know if you get hung-up or confused on any part of it and I'll be happy to help you out.

Based on what I've seen for builds so far, it looks like the team could use the following:

-Communications/Electronics Expert
-Sniper/Marksman (Weapon's Expert MOS covers this, but so does the Delta career lens)
-Combat Engineer

Like aamulder said, we already have Intelligence, Criminal Investigation, and Advanced Medic covered.

I think Fifiste is going with the Vehicle/Combat Engineer/Driver specialty, so that angle is covered as well.

But like we've said, there is nothing wrong with some overlap...especially if the core bases are covered.

And the base templates are good enough to make sure everyone can sub in for anything that might be missing in terms of specialty.

Also, be sure to read (but not post in) the Torn Victor IC thread if you haven't already.

One more template issue: Cross-Trained is required to be specialized by weapon type. However, it seems like Assaulter Style Familiarity includes Cross-Training for "every gun your style covers in your setting", which is up to you but maybe pistols and assault rifles? Not sure about SMGs or Shotguns? So the actual Cross-Training (Weapon Type) perk can then be used to include weapons outside the style. Not sure which category you'd pick for that.

Yeah, I pulled that specifically from Tactical Shooting, and I meant for the perk to cover "every gun your style covers in your setting."

Considering everyone's background, that means ARs, Pistols, Shotguns, Grenade Launchers, SMGs, and LMGs.

I toyed with working on a specific list of small arms that the perk will cover in this game, but I'm not so sure it's really going to be worth the effort.

A good rule of thumb is "most NATO and former Soviet Bloc small arms" is what most of the team is going to be familiar with.

I'll also probably make some rulings on CFs. For example, if you are the only character with the Latin America CF, you can pick up an Ameli and use it without a familiarity penalty, but anyone else using it would be at a -2.

Likewise, if you steal a QBZ-95 off a dead guard, you will be at a -2 unless have CF: East Asian.

Does that make sense?

Thank you both! I saw the PM but I was a bit busy to do anything about it and I am still a bit lost.

I notice an infiltration person isn't listed. Is it safe to assume we all have that? I can't decide between

Combat Engineer and Intelligence. Is there one we need more than the other? Otherwise I'll go for Intelligence.

How is this? Better?

I think I have another 50 points to hit 380. Correct me if I'm wrong. If I do, I'll use it to bump up, or add, a couple of skills.
