Default Marvel Munchkin/ Cancerverse Question

So we have been playing Marvel Munchkin for a couple months now, and last night was our most brutal game yet. Here is my question, hopefully someone can help.
We ended up in both the Cancerverse and Limbo, which is a nasty combo. Limbo is pretty irrelevant to this though. In the Cancerverse ir says that allies bonuses count for the other side, and that you cannot DISCARD allies for automatic escape or any other reason.
I take this to mean that you cannot lose allies while you are in this dungeon ( knowing the context of the Cancerverse in the Mu where no one can die).
Now there are cards that say lose an ally. To me lose and discard are synonymous with each other here. What are your thoughts? Should one lose an ally while in the Cancerverse?

The intent is that you cannot voluntarily lose an Ally. You can still be forced to lose one.
