That's great. I'd want to add some hex lines to it but that still lets me generate large overlays.

If it was in an .xcf file format with a terrain layer and a hex layer, that would be awesome.

Creating the XCF file would require me to use the contents of the Terrain PDF, which I can't do without SJG permission (and I'd have to make a bunch of them). As a second best for now, here's a transparent hex grid to overlay on the terrain images - just scale the terrain image (currently 2400x3000) to 2400x3150, then overlay this to it. I had to print it telling GIMP to ignore the page margins, but they all printed just fine.

I kind of meant if SJG released one in addition to the PDF, but that works, too :-)

They are 96 DPI.

another way to quickly get some hexes to throw on a layer:

http://www.printfreegraphpaper.com

They have an option for 1" hexes, but it's not a big deal to scale it up.
