Default Multiple levels of Altered Time Rate & Temporary Disadvantage

According to B115, the point break due to Temporary Disadvantage cannot exceed 80% of the value of the original disadvantage.

How do you apply this to an advantage like ATR with several levels? Does "Temporary Disadvantage, Haemophilia" decrease to -12% with ATR or do you apply the point break value statically, so that it remains -24% no matter how many levels you take?

The former. Having a disadvantage that only comes into play as a side effect of your ability should not give the character back more points than if he simply had the disadvantage all the time.

Luckly only Base * Level counts for this. If you add an Enhancement to the advantage it does not further shrink the Limitation as Enchantments and Limitations are priced in regard to the unmodified cost.

In fact, you should extend this reasoning across the board. If you have two entirely unrelated advantages with the same temporary disadvantage you should not get back more points than suffering it all the time would give you.

Think of a temporary disadvantage as a shorthand for having the disadvantage on your character sheet all by itself with a limitation (only when using advantage X). It would actually be better to do it that way, except that it makes it easier to "forget" it when you use the advantage.

Absolutely agree. Although for this purpose I would make sure not to round up point values when doing the math to double check until you get to the very end - IE don't round after checking each advantage.

It can also get a little complex when listed as a separate disad, so overall the limitation is probably the best form for usability... but it's unfortunately a bit of a land-mine due to the hidden cost cap.

The simplest way of representing this is to reduce the value of the limitation to make the math work out. It's less simple up front, but then easier to understand in play (like so many GURPS things) to use this formula:

Temporary Disadvantage Limitation = (0.8 * Disadvantage Value) / Advantage Value

So TD (Hemophilia) on ATR 4 would be worth

(0.8 * -30) / 400 = -0.06 = -6%
