Re: GURPS - Your Licensed Product Wishlist
Tricky. It's all about Shadow not knowing who he is, and not even knowing that that matters, and the readers not knowing that it matters who Shadow is. You have to plant the thing with the snowstorm (at the bank robbery) so that it seems absolutely natural, and you would have to do that snowstorm without the PCs asking "now hnag on! Why's he getting me to control the weather, and why can I?". It'd be a GMing tour de force if you could pull it off at length. I'm not that ambitious any more.
(The theme of a young man obtaining [magical] power by discovering his identity, in particular his heritage, is one that Gaiman has used over and over: American Gods, Anansi Boys, Stardust….

Re: GURPS - Your Licensed Product Wishlist
There was a rather dull little sci fi novel called Walkers on the Sky. But the setting was mindblowing! The survivors of the human race lived in a three tiered world. The lowesr tier had high air pressure and the lakes were oxygenated to the point humans could breath underwater. Because of the low gravity and high air pressure, people could were wings and fly. The second tier had Sword and Sorcery type kingdoms and the woven force field that keeps the air on this moonlike world could be walked or slid upon. This mean ships sailed across the skies. The third tier was a ...mystery!
If the story was dull the setting was mindblowing.

I don't know if it would make a good playground for a game. Prior to the events of the novels you wouldn't have much besides the Shards. Setting it during the events creates a very narrow window. Mistborn and Warbreaker are complete for what is going on, have covered the magic system and society in more detail, and are open-ended as for what will come next. Mistborn has a few hundred years open from fantasy to old west then more time after the old west setting before it will hit the next era. |

That's such an obvious (and elegantly done) lampoon of Dungeons & Dragons that I don't think it would do, at all, to try to use any other system.

Re: GURPS - Your Licensed Product Wishlist
Sooo, rather than just dump on somebody else's idea, I figured I'd probably better come up with three of my own, if for no other reason than to give others the chance to dump on them. :)
What we want is three ideas that would increase interest in the GURPS system, in an effort to draw in new players. So, in no particular order: GURPS: Game of Thrones (Okay, this seems unlikely. Still, it seems a natural, given that Martin is known to be a GURPS player, and the fact that the HBO series is over may make it available at a bargain discount. Adapt the books, and not the TV series.) GURPS: Men in Black (Sci-Fi doesn't get much more accessible than this and, once again, while the original movie was a blockbuster the films made since weren't. Also, if we want to broaden the scope, adapt the comic and not the movies.) GURPS: Jericho (Post-apocalyptic small-town America done right -- at least, until the writers' strike occurred, the producers tried to write the episodes, and the whole thing went stupid. Somebody needs to do something with this brilliant setting, and it may as well be SJGames.)
