Default Missile Spell Digging

In the section on tunneling through solid rock (p. 71) the rules state when a missile spell is used to tunnel it deals at least 1d6 dmg. to anyone within 3 hexes. But there is nothing stopping a wizard from abusing this in combat.

All a wizard has to do is learn Magic Fist, and then shot it at the ground right in front of a hostile's feet. You can't miss as missile attacks always fly in a straight line and the ground is already your back stop. So the only thing stopping you from dealing 1d6 dmg. in a 3.5 hex radius every turn is the enemies' armor. (If you aim behind them they can't use their shield.)

I would recommend simple removing the ability to tunnel with a missile spell, as Wizards can already learn the Open Tunnel spell or the Teleport spell.

I think this is a good option for preventing unnecessary abuse.

Best of all you can't fail to missile an exact hex of wall, even at negative adjDX while wearing iron armor.

Just reduce the chance of chips flying to one in six to keep the danger close aspect without the cheese.

Yea this is another good fix.

Or to reduce the amount of roles needed you could have it deal 1d6-2.

Ha. Kieddicus I have never seen this before. Now finally we have some nice area damage spells. And they have been there all along.

Plus in caves you can aim for the ceiling instead of the floor. Just as easy to hit and the advantage is no one will be blocking the blast from those behind them. 3 hex range in every direction from the blast... wow that is a large blast area. 37 hexes. And a chance at a cave-in too... if you are inclined to come up with rules for that.

Yea, this should be fixed. I would just ignore it for both combat and mining. In a mining operation, do we really need this detail? Farm is a dangerous job in real life, maybe we need saving rolls or damage for that too.
