Re: Horror 4e - Tell Me About It
It's excellent. (And I'm not a particular fan of Horror, I haven't read or seen much of the books/movies in the extensive bibliography).
The player/character and GM advice is excellent for almost any genre/game where you want atmosphere and strongly engaged characters. I have neither owned nor read any previous edition of horror, so I can't really comment on how it's expanded. |

It gave me nightmares. Two nights in a row. And I'm not kidding.

Re: Horror 4e - Tell Me About It
I've owned two previous versions of Horror (one with the old-style Michael Whelan* cover and the last 3rd Ed. version) but I honestly couldn't tell you much about how they compare.
For what it's worth Horror is useful even for people who aren't good with the horror genre. It has a lot of material for setting a mood where the character's mortality (or sanity) is in question but not in a "I'm in battle" kind of way. If you're interested in a Monster Hunters or a dark fantasy game it's a goldmine. * And whatever SJ Games did to get that art with the permission they have they got a bargain. He's the rare sci-fi and fantasy cover artists to transition to fine art.

Re: Horror 4e - Tell Me About It
Yes, very. It's longer, and one of the settings was removed to a) go to its own book and b) make space for more stuff.
It's got a TON more detail on each of the monsters, for starters.

Re: Horror 4e - Tell Me About It
Is it reasonable to ask for a short description of each of the new goodies present in the book?

It also has a version of the Ritual Path magic system with examples and an explanation on creating new rituals/spells.
It also has a corruption mechanic for powers/spells. It also has a Sanity blasting ruleset with notes on advantages that affect it. Like the Cthulu Mythos checks. |
