Re: Map Scales demonstrated
I think ColBosch is correct on this -- though I do seem to recall seeing the term "Metahex" somewhere back in the day... I suspect it was in Interplay or something like that.

Re: Map Scales demonstrated
I printed a whole 11" x 17" sheet with that grid, with the notion that I might try to draw a multi-layer map on it — well, two layers anyway, one above ground and the other below.
I'm trying to retroactively justify the amount of work I put into building that thing in Illustrator, of course. Otherwise, it's just OCD and too much Free Time. ;) |

I'll have to play around with it to find out if it works. Firehorse, I think you might be able to sell this to a Book Publisher for their cover art. It is very striking. - John Paul

That makes mapping rather difficult. |

Re: Map Scales demonstrated
I really like the picture, but is it slightly off? Is it possible to fix it?
I am thinking of the edges that are made up of 4 straight hexes of the level two less than the current. So the big black one is made up of 4 straight red hexes, the blue one is made up of 4 small black line hexes, but at the smallest scale the grey hexes are not aligned to make up 4 straight ones, but instead makes the side out of 5 crooked ones. Maybe it is not geometrically possible to get it to line up properly, but I was just surprised to see a pattern and then it broke down at the lowest scale. |
