It was an editorial nightmare as more books got printed, with newer editions or revised editions changing page references throughout a dozen different books. The abbreviation codes also got less and less intuitive as more and more books were printed. It's an understandable decision to not want to go through that again.

I miss them too. Badly.

We can make our own for the forum. My proposals so far:

IW: Infinite Worlds
ISW: InterStellar Wars
F: Fantasy
BS: Banestorm
S: Space (as per 3e)
SU: Supers (as per 3e)
P: Powers (needs a one-letter acronym due to being used frequently).
TPI: Traveller Psionic Institutes
Bi and Bii: Basic Set books when needing the distinction but ignorant of the page number.
MA: you know it.

Not too bad an idea, but for something that unofficial, we should open a new thread.

I'm going to have a gripe about abbreviations for ammunition types in Ultra-Tech, some of which aren't immediately obvious and only yield up their secrets on a close reading of the text. CL and CLP were particularly frustrating until I spotted a ref to "caseless long rifle" rounds at the end of the conventional guns section (p136), as they weren't explained where they were introduced and aren't indexed.

So far I've figured out-
CL- caseless long
CLP- caseless long pistol
CLR- caseless long rifle
PC- plastic-cased (for shotgun-style ammo)
PLB- pre-loaded barrel
G- grenade, I presume, although I'm not sure why the Portable Rail Gun (p141/142) is listed as 10mmG when the text says it fires slugs
N- needler (that was an easy one)
T- tangler (likewise)

Abbreviations for gun names are more explicitly stated, so I won't go into them, but I had some 30 minutes frustration trying to scan the text, weapons tables, index, Basic Set, etc, for a summary of these ammo types.

Thanks for posting those on the front page, Molokh.

As I've had a reply from the esteemed David Pulver-dono graciously correcting an erratum, could you change one line in the entry?

Where it says
Quote:

it might be better to say-
G- grenade (note that Portable Rail Gun (p141/142, and the ammunition table p143) is listed incorrectly as 10mmG, where it should be just 10mm).

Thanks and onya.

Two acronyms I couldn't seem to find listed would be:

TK Telekinesis

PK Psychokinesis

But PK is listed in Characters so it may not count. : /
