Default Alternate Mental Form?

Hello everyone!

Is there any reason Alternate Form could not be used for a purely mental shift, like for instance letting a tulpa take over your body, potentially having different paranormal abilities?

Also, would the Reaction Roll penalty from Multiple Personalities count as a Nuisance Effect if they applied to people who see you shift?

Thanks!

The Spirit Vessel rules in Thaumotology covers a similar phenomena.

Thaumatology has a few pages on it, enough to work wll with.
Totems and Nature Spirits does this for a large number of animal totems plus a few others, such as spirits of place.
And Totems includes rules for Reaction rolls and other tidbits.
No Tulpas but it gives you everything you need to do that.

Wetware Sub-Personality from GURPS Bio-Tech (p. 180) explicitly allows such a thing.

I missed that one, though its just a psych shift. Maddness Dossier and MH:Holy Hunters also provide examples, though the ongoing FP cost is a limiter.

There are also mentions of alter egos in Supers. In general though, the perk of Controllable Disadvantage (Split Personality) is probably cheaper, faster, and simpler, as you can manifest different mental advantages and mental disadvantages, as well as variations in IQ, Per, and Will. When it comes to physical traits, they could be limited to specific personalities, though they would show up in the shared template. For example, you could have ST+4 (Accessibility, Only while in Strong Alex Personality, -40%) [24] as part of the shared tekplate.

Bear in mind that split personality cannot change more than once per hour of game time and can only occur in stressful situations. It's also an obvious exploit.

It is a legal option by RAW, and the one hour restriction is for the self-control roll, not for Controllable Disadvantage.
