McMillan Storage: Burt McMillan founded this large storage facility in the early 1980s. Back than, nobody thought that there was a market for this in Serenity Falls, but to everybody's surprise the company not only stayed alive, it became one of the most-used facility's of this kind in the state. Strangely, it mostly caters to customers out of town. Why on earth some people come from places like Boston, Chicago and even Miami to use a storage locker in Serenity Falls, "is anybody's guess, but nobody's business", to quote Burt McMillan.

The facility's secret: Many of the storage units contains things that have to be kept hidden, but should not be destroyed. If you open a box, chances are good that you will find a body, wrapped in plastic foil, or boxes with photos that keep politicians in the whole land awake at night.

Burt's secret: Burt McMillan's real name is Bert Mahoney. Under this name he was born, under this name he served with distinction in Vietnam, and under this name he robbed a bank and killed a guard in San Francisco in 1978. He changed his identity - back when it was easier - and came on his long run to Serenity Falls. He used the rest of his loot to start the storage facility and advised its existence to his underworld contacts.

Samantha Jones

Samantha Jones officially disappeared on her 18th birthday and, if you say you met her, everyone in Serenity Falls will tell you that you met her ghost. She is quite alive and material though but, for three years, the entire population of Serenity Falls has been cognitively incapable of consciously seeing or hearing her, though they unconsciously see and hear her well enough to avoid running into her or to react when she shouts a warning though. While she is capable of stealing what she needs to survive, no one who lives in Serenity Falls for more than a day is capable of consciously seeing or hearing her.

Secret: Samantha possesses a unique biochemistry that interacts with the toxins that permeate Serenity Falls to make anyone contaminated by the toxins incapable of consciously seeing or hearing her. While she was always easily overlooked, the toxins reached a critical point where the interaction resulted in her effective invisibility and muteness three years ago. The irony is that she has become dependent on the toxins in her diet and finds it impossible to leave Serenity Falls.

Dark Secret: Samantha discovered that people can see her and hear her when they experience an orgasm when she was spying on a couple having sex over two years ago. With the isolation causing her to experience a psychotic breakdown, she decided to become the 'ghostly' lover of Serenity Falls. She uses her invisibility and her muteness to have sex with the most attractive people in Serenity Falls while they sleep so she can wake them up during the moment of orgasm when they can see and hear her for a few minutes. Even so, the people forget that they saw or heard her after their orgasm fades, and they only have highly erotic dreams of making love to a beautiful ghost as evidence of her existence.

Adventure Seed: Consider That a Divorce - Detective Quentin Boles received another e-mail from his mysterious informant, and this one hit too close to home. It revealed the dark secret of his own (soon-to-be-ex) wife, Ruth!

When Boles confronted her about it, she turned the tables and held him at gunpoint. Ruth demanded to know how Quentin found her out, and Quentin showed her the e-mails and his database of clues.

Having realized her dark secret was known to more than one man, Ruth took drastic action. She fatally shot Quentin, took the database of e-mails, and went on the lam. She now hopes to track down the informant and silence him before slipping away to another country. She figures the database would be useful for blackmail material, if it comes to that.

Can the PCs find Ruth and bring her to justice?

Who is the informant?

What other horrible revelations does the database contain?

And just what is the dark secret Ruth Boles is willing to murder to keep to herself?

The Serenity Glyphs: Every new year's eve since 1990, somewhere in Serenity Falls a graffito shows up. It shows up on the wall next to the place where one of the strange events of the town will happen. It always look like some random doodle from a child, but it usually covers a few square feet. If someone with knowledge in cryptography studies them, he could discover that the glyphs are warnings that tell what will happen next to them during the year - with the exact date and time.
Most of the signs were never over-painted or removed, because they are to well hidden or out-of-sight.

Secret: Who leaves this graffiti? That is the big question. Most of them were never discovered, and only one person in Serenity Falls knows who is responsible - the mysterious artist himself. He already has bought the spray cans for his next masterpiece, and boy, this time nobody will overlook it.

Sadly, not for long as UPS will start opening the packages to see what's inside. DHL does this quite often, so I imagine UPS and FED-EX do as well.

Dave Knox

Dave is a janitor at JT and a relatively poor resident of the town. Few people see him other than late night researchers and the staff at the liquor store. Still he’s a decent enough fellow, and those who want to feel egalitarian will always say hello.

Secret: Dave sells stolen research equipment on the black market in SF’s underground science community under the name Deacon. The booze is a gift for other marketeers. JT knows the gear often comes from them, and assume it is a staff researcher, but it’s an easy way to for them to gain access to top shelf gear for black work. They’ve promoted the guy they think is the thief, to bring him close to the fold. Dave knows they know, and everyone is happy saying nothing about it.

Dark Secret: Dave is a catastrophically smart autodidact working to cure the genetic disorder from which his daughter died. He’s using his access to JT to exploit their really good equipment, and gain insights from their ongoing research. His lab is well concealed, booby trapped, and one of the more robust in the county. He is bizarrely driven, a natural actor (his first career choice), and a good man who wants to save little girls from the suffering of his own daughter. Occasionally, with what he knows of SF’s scientific underbelly, one of the bottles is for him.

Rebecca Nims is an elderly woman who has spent the last fifty years of her life breeding superior cats on her family farms. She has selectively bred her cats for improved comprehension and intelligence and, after twenty-four generations, her cats have gained 80 points of positive traits and 8 points of negative traits because of her highly controlled breeding techniques. The Nims cats are now known throughout the world, and Rebecca sells sterilized kittens to discerning customers for $5,000 each.

Secret: Rebecca succeeded with her plans through allowing her male kittens to mate with feral cats and kept track of the surviving kittens. If any were especially intelligent and affectionate, she added them to her breeding population. She allowed the rejects to survive and the average feral cat in Serenity Falls possesses IQ 5 due to her contributions.

Dark Secret: Rebecca has figured out a way to further accelerate the breeding process with the toxins afflicting Serenity Falls and hopes to have IQ 6 cats within a year. She plans of selling the cats as spies to the military.

Belinda Trent

Brown hair worn to waist, often braided, blue eyes, nice figure, definitely has at least Attractive Appearance in GURPS terms. Single mother of three kids, the oldest is 14 and looks like a younger version of her mother. Works as a deputy in the country sheriff's office. Easy going, but not soft, she once fatally shot a coked up troublemaker in her first year on the force. She's a widow, her husband died eleven years before of completely natural causes (she married a man 20 years her senior, and he had a heart flaw).

Her dark secret: A few years ago, she learned that her late father was actually her step-father, and that her biological father is Antonio 'Big Tony' Verozono, the head of the Verozono 'family' of the Mafia. It seems that in his late thirties, the future Big Tony impregnated the teenage daughter of a rival in the Family, causing no end of uproar and lethally violent recriminations. The daughter decided to make herself scarce, and ran away with their daughter, vanishing into the population.

She changed her name, and married the man Belinda thought was her father, and never intended for Belinda or her spouse ever to know about her past. Belinda only learned the truth going through some private papers of her mother's after her mother's death.

The secret is unnerving on more than one level. For one thing, it would be embarrassing at least for it to be known that the biological father of a local cop was a major crime boss. For another, 'Big Tony' is still very much alive, very much dangerous, and it's an open secret in the law enforcement world that Big Tony is looking for a missing relative...
