Default Extreme Traditionalism Disadvantage

I am working on an alien species for my game. I want them (as they hit what is equivelant to human's mid-life crisis age) to become extremely tied down by tradition as the norm (i.e. some may rise above this, but it is normal for them to have this)

I'm thinking of stating it as Hidebound, but making it a racial quirk, mitigated by following traditions (i.e. you can be creative as you want as long as you follow the traditional patterns, schemes and processes) and limited to later in life.

I'd like people's opinion on this idea as part of a racial template. Obviously it is something that can be bought off the template for those who'd rather not worry about it or for those who want to play an older member of this species not so saddled down. And yes, I do figure that players will typically buy this off, its a flavor of the species though that I figure has some game effect that I'm considering building into them.

The quirk level is Dull. It sounds as if it's pretty close to what you're talking about.

We have an alien race with a strange tradition. 'White stick', however there are no rules governing how long or big the stick should be, and it must be white. If you hit the other person with the white stick then they must yeild, however there are no rules governing how hard you can hit them, just that you only hit them once.

They are large aliens, 11'plus, very strong (ST30+) and tough DR20. They can survive extremes of hot and cold.

They are not very TL advanced but use borrowed tech. To outsiders their views are completely irrational (they are!) and as they live for a very long time they can be either mad or boring.

Sounds much like the Vilani in the early part of the Traveller universe. The ISW book gives them Hidebound, and recommends against a number of other traits (Gadgeteer, Curious, etc).

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

Ugh though, I didn't want to have a Traveler tie in there, but I guess that is hard not to do. lol
