Re: Azoth-8
When we look at the early 1970s they generally look like a sillier glitzier 1960s. This was mainly because the same trends that created the 1960s and that zeitgeist were still going strong until the oil shocks and the brutal warping of the Bretton Woods System. As none of either of those is relevant here, this world is going over the top glam in a way our world never did.

Re: Azoth-8
Just wanted to say how much I love this setting. As a life long fan of Doc Who and The Avengers, seeing this blend of magic and scifi espianoge is very lovely. I hope there's more to come.

Adamant's method of surviving six decades being entombed in ice screams "techno-alchemy", so there's no problem on that score. But there would be serious research into duplicating it. After just four years, cryonics wouldn't be a mature technology, but the first steps might be made (employing the technique to put otherwise-untreatable patients in a state where they can be safely operated on, or keeping accident victims in stasis until the resources to save them could be accumulated). The cryonic sciences, after four years, might even be at the stage where experimental ships are sent out beyond Epsilon Indii with sleeping crews, monitored by experimental A.I.'s with unsuspected mental problems ... Re: Azoth-8
Dear MDLv3.2 it is now cannon in Doctor Who that the First Doctor manipulated the Peter Crushing Doctor Who movies to throw people off the scent. He even gave Peter some of his clothing for his costume.
Assume similar shenanigans in this parallel.

I'll try to do more work on this over the weekend.

Re: Azoth-8
It occurs to me that Adam Adamant Lives (link later) would be a much more prominent show in this world. Either that or Sherlock Holmes got rejuvenated and is still around.

Re: Azoth-8
Of course, my first thought at this place is the same one I had when Big Finish got the rights to both of them: when do Adamant and John Steed get into a fencing duel?
Plus, if Steed, Peel and Co. are about, that means those proto-Terminator cybermen should be, as well. Freaking walking walls of circuits that can take a point-blank twelve-gauge to the chest, bust down reinforced solid oak doors, and then karate chop your head off. Also, another pair that could be knocking about, HG Wells and the Ripper... 'Time After Time' took place in the late seventies, so maybe they're duking it out across San Fran. |

Re: Azoth-8
In the present day we tend to see Afghanistan as a scary disaster. But in the late 1960s it was a major feature of the Hippie Trail. If you look at a map of the Hippie Trail and think of period spy novels, the many points of overlap from the European coast to Bangkok are obvious.
The simple and lively ways to set up clashes between Hippies, Flower Children, and Super Spies are obvious. PCs playing adventure seeking New Age Travelers will be going to the trouble of their own free will.

Re: Azoth-8
Bali is a really interesting place in this world. The Island of Bali is at the peak of it's twentieth century popularity/fashionable craze. At the same time the island's highly mystical syncretic Hindu/Buddhist religious complex excites anthropologists, hippies, artists, New Agers, Utopians, and Romantics.
This Island would be loaded down with mystics, thrill seekers, and super spies. In Azoth-8 Bali's reputation for mystical experience and spontaneous trance will pull in parapsychologists in droves. All the powers will want exclusive control of all the data.
