This is reminding me of a previous discussion about how to determine how much damage (ie equivalent to a strangle/choke) someone gets by being hug by a noose, since that would be based on weight and how you could mitigate that by using tiptoes on ground, grabbing rope w/ hand, etc.

Yeah. The rules I've proposed are way too "simulationist" to be really usable.

Your way is simpler and more workable, but I'd add that damage sufficient to kill the victim or 2x damage needed to cripple the limb means a limb gets ripped off.
