Considered, but a bit too silly.

Also: Originally, it was the "Waterloo Switchback"; it was first designed when I was in Omaha. The choice of location was a Pun, given what I expected would happen (and it did...).

I've not tried this but for really long tracks, you could use the "wear and tear" rules from Convoy, and then only bring things to the map when cars come together...

It was pointed out in one of the later ADQs: "Convoy"'s W&T rules are little too drastic (something about tires with a lifespan of maybe 1,000 miles), and could stand to be toned-down a bit. Not sure how much, tho'.

Given standard OS tires at 8 DP...
OS PR's are 18 DP

I'm seeing 100-150 thousand miles on various trucker sites for steers.
I'm seeing 400-500 thousand miles for drives.

I'm seeing up to double that with newer high end tires.

Off road is about half those.

So... let's assume for the moment, that the usual tire on the road is PR.

steers should be rolling every 100,000/(18 * 6) for a 1/6 chance. So 925 miles. For sanity, call it 900 for pristine roads.
Call it 600 for standard roads
Call it 300 for bad, and 100 for "what road"

Drives roll about 1 per 3 times steers do.
