Set 1 VALUE!
So I was a bit bored and for the heck of it, I crunched the numbers on Ogre Miniatures Set 1, and discovered something neat: it's the cheapest Ogre miniatures have ever been, even without adjusting for inflation. Breaking it down:
Martian Metals never released a full line of minis, but they did plan on it, and in 1979 even advertised a price list for 14 different models. If we assume 4 heavy tanks, GEVs, or missile tanks per blister, or 2 howitzers (as their second line supposedly contained), or ~24 infantry (pretty standard for 6mm infantry back in the day), we get a total of $43.35. Adjusted for inflation, that's $140. The original SJ Games and Grenadier line would've been a similar price. You got more in some blisters, but the overall cost per blister went up. If you waited until 1993 and Ral Partha, it was even worse. An equivalent collection would've been in the neighborhood of $96 ($160 adjusted for inflation). It's kind of hard to calculate the 2000 SJ Games line, as it was sold in mixed boxed sets. But the Deluxe Ogre set contained - roughly - half as many miniatures as plastic Set 1, and retailed for $49.95 ($71 today). |
