I've personally never liked the rules for parrying weapons unarmed. They just seem very unrealistic for GURPS. How the hell do you parry an Axe or a Morning Star unarmed?

And even weapons can take damage when you successfully parry. A fencer is going to probably break his weapon trying to parry a Greatsword, but someone who knows karate can do it without penalty?

Parrying a weapon attack if you are in close combat makes sense to me, you just grab or parry the hand/arm holding the weapon.

Usually in my games I make this a cinematic technique that you can learn if you are trained by a master. To me parrying weapons unarmed seems a lot more cinematic than many of the cinematic techniques out there.

For those without trained by a master I've tried a few different rules, I think the one I like best is that you can parry an attack unarmed, but your parrying limb or hand takes minimum damage.

This isn't to say that I don't allow super martial artists. I do, I've hard characters with super chi that can punch through steel, catch bullets, etc. It's just not something a normal person who's done a year or two of Kempo can do.

Furthermore, I have a question about what happens if a martial artist punches me and I parry the attack, do I damage him automatically as is logical?

While I am not by any means a martial arts expert, this seems pretty intuitive to me, and actually easier than dealing with something like a sword - you block/grab/deflect the haft of the weapon, while doing your best to avoid the head of it. Taking a solid blow from the base of handle seems like it's really as good as a block, at least compared to taking an equivalent blow with the striking surface and whole leverage of the thing.

If you parry an unarmed attack then you make another weapon skill roll, (at -4 if they used judo or karate) if you succeed, then you do normal damage to them.

Again, this is on B376

Take a lesson from a fighter, parried a pool stick with my arm, hurts like flicking heck! I won the fight though.

Secret to this, if you can't parry the arm itself, is to meet the weapon with your arm before momentum is at its apex. Intercept the weapon with your arm. Hurts less and you may even surprise your attacker with the aggressive parry.

Funny how often this question is asked as though there were no answer, but actually it's not at all hard to find out. I dare say it's a lot easier than snapping fingers or whistling.

It's a soft clap sound.

Not in Adventurers, but see Power-Ups p. 30, "Seven Secret Kicks."
