Re: Theoretical question: Hardcover vs softcover adventure

It does illustrate the real challenge in our neck of the woods. I think in general we'd really love to see more hardcovers for most products. I just took a photo of a 5.5x8.5 or 6x9 hardcover, sewn binding, felt like 2.5mm boards, that was about 108 pages. Was not crazy. And the output of the process of making a hardcover is a lovely product. But the economics are somewhat painful unless you can really print a lot of them. I'm looking into getting our theoretical book blocks printed and then having a select few bound into hardcover, with the rest in softcover. Thomson-Shore offered me that at one time or another, so presumably it's a thing. Since the printer I used for Dragon Heresy ONLY makes sewn books (softcover or hardcover), I think this should be a viable option, should such a thing theoretically come up.

Sure! But when the CEO of SJG decides to expound upon their thoughts, one attempts to draw them out to see if insights personal, institutional, and industrial can be gleaned.

Oh, I'm a moron when it comes to books. I always want a hardcover and am happy to pay extra for it. Never base your book soft/hard decisions on my opinions.

Re: Theoretical question: Hardcover vs softcover adventure
I'm not a big adventure buyer so take this with a grain of salt, but my big requirements for adventure books that I'm actually going to use is a lay-flat binding of some sort, and anything I am likely to need to hand out to players should be separate (this includes sample characters, art, and maps). Unfortunately, the economical options for doing that are generally options that are annoying to put on a shelf, such as multiple saddle-stitched pamphlets or something larger and wire-bound.

Re: Theoretical question: Hardcover vs softcover adventure
I love hardcovers, but in this case I'd prefer a nicely made softcover because it will better match the rest of the product line. A lay-flat softcover would be wonderful.

As long as it's in pdf, you've got me at the pdf level. Forever.

Re: Theoretical question: Hardcover vs softcover adventure
I'm looking into this. I like the idea. The Hall of Judgment books were straight-up perfect bound I think, but I can look at PUR and PUR-lay-flat options. If I theoretically do what I theoretically want to do, the books will be sewn anyway, which opens up options or might lay flat just 'cause.
