passion potion + cheat!

i was recently playing the deluxe legends edition. another player was a level 9, and they had an easy monster fight. no one was able to tip the scales to stop the win, but i kept going over the text for these two cards; passion potion and cheat!

i was left completely unsure it would work, but decided to play these cards anyway. cheat! allows me to play any item card (which passion potion is) even if i'm not allowed to play it at the time. passion potion says i can give an item to someone of the opposite gender, and they have to help ME fight the monster.

i suggested this meant i'm stealing the fight away from the other player, and while i didnt fully believe it should work, it left everyone speechless and unsure on if it should work. so naturally, in the theme of the game, i started making loud arguments about why it should, while everyone else was split on whether it does or doesnt work.

so my question is, what's the official ruling on this? it made for a hilarious argument, but i'm willingly to admit it if i'm wrong in this case, lol

Cheat! lets you play an Item you can’t use because of sex, Class, Race, etc., or because you already have Armor or 2 Hands or a Big Item. It doesn’t suspend ALL conditions - for instance, if something says it’s only usable on your turn, Cheat! doesn’t override that.

Alas, your clever play was not legal. Passion Potion can only be used on your turn when you are in combat. You can’t have a helper if you aren’t fighting.
