Temporary DR Reduction
Hi, everyone. Did a search for this, but couldn't find anything, so here it goes:
I'm trying to create a damaging attack that lowers DR, but only temporarily-- sort of like the molecules of the armor being weakened, making it briefly easier to penetrate, but they then strengthen again after a few seconds. I figured that being a damaging attack, it would be based off a Corrosion attack, but without the permanent DR reduction. I wasn't sure what modifier I'd use for it. I was thinking Max Duration (30 seconds), but -75% seems to be a bit much as it would make the attack much cheaper than other attacks and the damage is still there (though there is a cap in my game on how many levels you can take). I was also thinking of using Temporary Disadvantage and placing it on another type of attack, but I haven't been able to find a "Reduced DR" disadvantage anywhere. Any ideas? Or should I just make something up? |

Re: Temporary DR REduction
You could use Affliction (Negated Advantage).
Or go with Corrosive Attack with Reduced Duration from Psionic Powers. This will effectively give that DR Rapid Healing or Regeneration. Maximum duration is for beneficial switchable abilties, not for attacks.

Re: Temporary DR REduction
Affliction could work.
But since many battles dont last 30 seconds after the first hit yeah -70% way way too much a discount if you use Corrosion. |

And I figured that Max Duration didn't fit, but it was one of the few things I could find. I used it for another ability that grants temporary DR and costs fatigue to use. Last edited by KLGChaos; 04-06-2012 at 03:09 AM. |

Re: Temporary DR Reduction
I think it's just a Corrosion Attack with something like a Nuisance Effect, or a minor Accessibility. Since combats are usually over quickly, it's not such a big deal if the DR returns faster than normal.

Re: Temporary DR Reduction
Considering that DR heals once per day, or not at all with normal armor, Reduced Duration might end up being a huge costing limitation.

Re: Temporary DR Reduction
I agree. You can remove Corrosion's affect on armor entirely for only -20% (p. P102), so simply weakening it should be less of a limitation. I'd call it -10% if it comes back within seconds (quickly enough to be a factor in this fight), -5% if it takes minutes (it's gone for this fight but will be back for the next).

So [4] for the damage, [2] for Damaging DR, the other [4] must come from being unaffected by Unliving or Homogeneous and the extra damage it gets on the Face and Neck. |
