Our first haul is usually measured in hundreds of CP rather than thousands. One of our first moves is to lease a house somewhere if we know we have a lot of adventuring to do. Nightly stays at the inn in town is a money pit and it draws the attention of burglars.
After that it's usually repairing damaged goods, upgrading armor, rounding out starting gear with back-up weaponry, maybe a cart. |

Methinks you meant saucy tarts and potions of pure joy. ;)
Actually I've been thinking about replacing all the liquor in taverns with potions. A bit of a nethack thing I suppose.

The DM mentioned that a couple valuable scrolls he gave were actually worth less than he told us, but he decided to roll with it instead of clawing back the money.
