A variation is to have skeletal centaurs in barding with a single goblin in each.

Legacy Lich

After a lich and it's army of skeletons where defeated some years passed. Then a new necromancer's less than bright goons turned up gathering material for their master. They gathered up all the bones and threw the lot into the back of their cart. Back at the necromancer's tower they reassembled the bones in no particular order. When they where reanimated the lich's consciousness reformed, inhabiting every skeleton that contained a part of his old body.

This resulted in a small army of skeletons animated by the consiousness of the lich that act with perfect cooperation/coordination. While they can cast spells the lack of vocal cords mean the legacy lich must devote several bodies to making the gestures for casting.

I love this. A construct in the shape of a bag [of holding] that likely detects as magic.

Reminds me of a minor villain from the cartoon Buzz Lightyear; shape stealer that was in essence a flying cloak that melded with and mind controlled its victims.

Great thread guys, keep it up.

I do however have a problem, if the premise that all these monsters where created by wizards that means that the bio-tech spells from Bio-Tech are around, at the very least Analyze Heredity, Sequence DNA and Manipulate DNA, with Create Chimera being highly likely.

The Masterwork Golem
A golem created to be the best ever made, gems sparkle in the eye sockets and every pore of the skin is visible. Layers of different materials have been built up during it's creation. Bones of steel, muscles of bronze, golden skin and mercury flowing through the veins.

General all round super-monster

Edit
Different precious metals in it make up may grant different abilities. Dwarven steel bones might grant +10 ST or mithral skin may grant magic immunity etc

Trollich

The soul of a troll has been bound to an object, granting it immortality. Which is to say, it regenerates from fire and corrosion as well as normal attacks. Its also immune to mind influencing effects cast on the body (but not the object). Destroying the object will cause the troll to return to being a normal troll. Similar effects can be achieved by taking the object into an anti-magic zone or more than a mile away The troll body knows which direction its soul is in, and will chase the object down if taken by unwary adventurers.

Screaming Marlock

Marlocks may be confused with small (leopard-sized) dragons without wings, transparent skin, overly long necks, giant mouths that leave no place for brains, and a liking for underwater pools. When attacking, they scream in a manner that, while deafening, forces a perception check at -2 +range modifier to understand speech between comrades. Marlocks have a dread of the sun, good swimming abilities, and a stupendous reach.

--------------------------------

eh, chimera creatures are just one of many tricks in the mad wizard's tower. And DNA manipulation is possible but not even necessary for that. Simply mixing and matching animals won't give the range of odd challenges that are possible.

Altermental
This entity is made of the primal stuff that existed before the universe was created. It will change into an Elemental whose type matches the last significant attack it received. If that attack was a sword blow for example it becomes a metal elemental, if it was a mages lightning it becomes a lightning elemental etc. It is very hard to describe when it is in its default state as it does not really belong in this reality and looking at it too hard can be very stressful to the psyche.

Treasure Room
This is actually a rare earth college area enchantment. The target being a room with earth or stone walls.

The room gains a rudimentary and usually fussy intellect as well at the ability to extrude a number of limbs long enough to reach every corner. As well as acting as a final line of defence the spell also cleans and organizes the room.

Jelly Dogs/Slime hounds*

Skeletal dogs that in place of flesh have clear jelly like ooze. Hard to damage and able to move through very small openings.

A variation makes these the soldiers for a queen slime

*Help desparately needed in the naming department.
