Default Can players offering help sabotage the combat?

If one player agrees to help another player fight a monster, can they then do something to aid the monster, for example, use a +3 potion for either side and choose to help the monster? IMO that's not allowed but the issue came up in a recent game.

And what if the player has been enthralled by another player who's a Bard? Would they be allowed to play a modifier to aid the monster when they're supposed to be helping the Bard?

Helpers are absolutely allowed to sabotage the combat.

Even those who are enthralled? So if I'm compelled by a Bard to help in a combat then does that mean I can sabotage the fight by refusing to use my weapons?

Helpers can ALWAYS try to sabotage the combat.

Well, if you have stuff equipped when you become a helper, you don't have any choice but to add those totals to the combat strength total. You can't say, "You can't count my weapons because I don't WANT to help."

You could curse yourself or the person that made you help, though. Or use enhancers or one-shots to help the monsters. But your level and any equipment you are using WILL count on the Munchkin side, whether you WANT to help or not.

Mister Ed is correct. You must provide your combat strength at the time you joined the combat, if you help willingly or are compelled. If you want to force the combat to be a loss, you have to find legal ways to reduce your combat strength, that of your "partner," or increase the Monster side combat strength.

Thanks everyone for the clarification. It certainly adds a devious twist to the game play.
