[3e] Vehicles for Back to School
Blue Bird "All American" School Bus
Manufactured by Blue Bird, this boxy school bus can carry 84 passengers. It features a heavy steel chassis. It has a large 32"x81" entrance door that is air-powered. Inside, there is 78" of headroom for passengers. The engine is placed in the rear of the bus for easy access and maintenance. The bus uses 7.8 gallons of diesel per hour at routine usage. Subassemblies: Body +5, 6 Heavy Wheels +2. Powertrain: 224-kW wheeled drivetrain with 224-kW standard diesel engine, 8,000-kWs lead-acid battery. Fuel: 60 gallons diesel in standard tank (Fire 9). Occupancy: 1 NCS, 84 CPS Cargo: 0 cf. Armor All: 2/3 Equipment: Body: Short-range radio (3-mile) 85-man environmental control. Statistics: Size: 41'x8'x10' Payload: 8.68 tons Lwt.: 18.1 tons Volume: 3,210 cf. Maint.: 70 hours Price: $82,212 HT: 12. HPs: 1734 Body, 198 each Wheel. gSpeed: 56 gAccel: 3 gDecel: 15 gMR: 0.5 gSR: 4 Ground Pressure High. 1/6 Off-Road speed. Design Notes: Body is 2,675 cf; wheels are 535 cf. Structure is Medium, Cheap. Armor is Expensive Metal. Mechanical controls, improved brakes, and improved access for all occupants. Design loaded weight is 37,724 lbs.; this was reduced 4% to the historical. Variants: The bus can be configured with alternate passenger layouts seating 66, 72, 78, or 84 passengers. At the lower end, this makes the bus 7' shorter, and with some layouts less passengers simply increases the access space for the passengers. A 100-gallon fuel tank can be installed, as well as under-floor cargo space that can be locked (access is from the outside). The bus can also be fitted with a smaller 187-kW engine; the largest engine option was used in the design. A receive-only radio (AM/FM) and sound system (CD player) are additional options.

Micro-Bird School Bus (TL7)
Manufactured by Blue Bird, this small school bus can carry 22 passengers. It features lightweight aluminum construction to improve fuel economy, acceleration, maneuverability, and reduces braking distance. It has a bifold door on the front right side (with a 10" step) as well as a 34"x49" emergency door to the rear. Inside, there is 75" of headroom for passengers. The bus uses 5.6 gallons of diesel per hour at routine usage. Subassemblies: Body +4, 6 Heavy Wheels +1. Powertrain: 160-kW wheeled drivetrain with 160-kW standard diesel engine, 8,000-kWs lead-acid battery. Fuel: 35 gallons diesel in standard tank (Fire 9). Occupancy: 1 NCS, 22 CPS Cargo: 0 cf. Armor All: 2/3 Equipment: Body: Short-range radio (3-mile) 23-man environmental control. Statistics: Size: 19'x8'x9' Payload: 2.4 tons Lwt.: 5 tons Volume: 960 cf. Maint.: 103 hours Price: $37,794 HT: 12. HPs: 388 Body, 44 each Wheel. gSpeed: 90 gAccel: 5 gDecel: 15 gMR: 0.5 gSR: 4 Ground Pressure Moderate. ¼ Off-Road speed. Design Notes: Body is 800 cf; wheels are 160 cf. Structure is Light, Standard. Armor is expensive metal. Mechanical controls, improved brakes, and improved access for all occupants. Design loaded weight is 10,085 lbs.; this was reduced 1% to the historical. Variants: The bus can also be manufactured with single rear wheels (4 wheels total). This reduces GVWR (loaded weight) to 9,600 lbs. and passenger capacity to 20. The bus comes standard with a slightly smaller 150-kW engine; the larger engine option was used in the design.

Re: [3e] Vehicles for Back to School
So, this whole thing got started when I was talking about an idea for a Road Warrior style campaign with my brother. He immediately decided his ersatz PC would have an armed mobile repair center based on a small school bus, complete with a turret. He even found a toy monster-bus, sans turret.
As The GM Who Preps Too Much, all of the above research was to lead to this: Monster Short Bus (TL8) This is a small TL7 school bus upgraded to TL8 materials and modified as a mobile, armed repair vehicle. The passenger bench seating has been removed (except for the front row, allowing for 5 passengers to still be carried), with the rear area being converted to a one-man repair shop for armoury, mechanical, engineering, and electrical duties. A full-rotation turret has been added to the top of the bus, armed with a pair of heavy machine guns; the gunner is half-in, half-out of the turret while in use. The engine has been upgraded to a multi-fuel ceramic powerplant, and the suspension features monster wheels and all-wheel drive. {Base vehicle description: Manufactured by Blue Bird, this small school bus can carry 22 passengers. Re: [3e] Vehicles for Back to School
Pedantry: Why do the first three have gasoline tanks if they burn diesel?
Or is this some convention of vehicle write-ups? |

Re: [3e] Vehicles for Back to School
Nope, it's me making a mistake. The Fire Chance was correct for diesel, however.
