Default World of Heroes

Game as printed with one twist: There are no wizards and therefore no Wizard's Guild to teach anybody to be a wizard. There's a few scattered books of magic, but nobody knows the Sorcerer's Tongue and so nobody can read them.

There are however plenty of Alchemists.

Default Re: World of Heroes

According to the rules, the presence of wizards retards technological progress. So in this world, technology gets ahead of where it is in Cidri and, well, we all know what that world looks like because we either live in it or know it as modern history or I suppose as futuristic science fiction.

I assume we still have fantastic creatures and nonhuman races. Initially goblins are in trouble because IQ isn't as useful without magic. But as technology takes off they become powerful and may end up ruling the world. As society gets more populous and impact on the natural world increases some monsters and/or intelligent species will go extinct.

Chemistry, as defined by TFT, gives us the increase attribute potions, useful for crises, e.g. combat. Nuclear reactor crews have a few, and orders to drink one if everything goes pear-shaped. Surgeons use them for tough jobs, and maybe if something goes wrong.

Alchemy gives us potions for Revival (every hospital has some, but until about our time even socialised medicine probably doesn't cover it), Healing (awesome for professional sportspeople), Invisibility (occasionally used in combat and maybe by criminals) and Telepathy (revolutionary for court cases, anti-corruption measures, government oppression, &c).
