Re: [DF]Face armour, eye DR?
Yes, that's right, thanks. But I'm slightly concerned because, in my experience, e23 sometimes fails e-mailing notifications regarding updated products. I remember it happened to me with The Tower of Octavius. Anyway I'm with the third printing of Characters and with the fourth printing of Campaigns, and I guess these are the current printings.

Re: [DF]Face armour, eye DR?
I had a high powered campaign where eye shots were the norm... not to avoid helmets, but to get to the brain for the quadruple damage (was a 3e campaign... not sure how 4e works for brain shots). The characters had such high skill (and I let it get that way) that the character blew through every opponent with eye-shots.
For me... that experience was a lesson in GMing and campaign set up. I learned that really high point total campaigns are harder to balance than I care to make the effort for. I'm sure there are ways to deal with characters with super high skills, but my recommendation is to not let skill levels get that high. And in general I like the natural limitations of a lower point total to help with that scenario. Since you've already got the campaign running it seems, and not to repeat what everyone else has said, but there are house rules you could use that might help. First, you could say that hitting the eye through a helm's eye slits is even harder than just hitting the eye. Make it some ridiculous penalty like -20 to hit an eye through a helm slit. Or you could go the easy route. Talk to your players about how the eye shots are breaking the game, and then say: no more eye shots. |

There's always "dwarven tempered glass" (just a bit of advanced materials TL, not magic) or good old fashioned perf plate (stronger than wire grills, but a little more obscuring), or other special but nonmagical materials.

I'd go with smoked or clear quartz goggles myself.
