Default What can I play during combat?

I am very new to this game (just played once with my kids) and I am confused about what you can and can't play or do after starting combat. After reading the rules I thought that you were restricted to only using the items you were carrying; in other words you cannot use anything in your hand, period. After viewing the flash DEMO and your comments here I see that I am wrong. (In the DEMO a "baby monster card -5" that was in "my" hand was used during combat and you state in this thread that you can change your class even while in combat).

Please clarify this for me.

Thanks! :)

"Baby" is a monster enhancer, not an Item. The only time you would have a monster to enhance is during combat, so it follows you could use it during combat.

Races and Classes are not Items either, and it states in the rules that you can play them anytime during your own turn.

This post summarises when you can and can't play most of the card types in the game and I found it quite useful when learning the game myself.

Thanks very much....I see my confusion came from the use of the term "items" vs. actual "Cards".

Thanks for clarifying and ofr the quick response.
