Those Devil Drums
This is just an unrefined idea I had and throwing it out there.
Drums have been used to send communications long distance and to liven up musical performances. This is what happens when you apply magic to those drumskins: I wanna tell you ‘bout Tejas audio and the big beat.Certain hedge mage and shamans have learned how to tan and treat various leathers to have them influence people. Not all of these skins are from your normal animals either. IQ9 Spell Enchanted Drumskin Amplifies the power of the skin-type to so that it affects the listener. Cow, goat and pig skin are not affected by the enchantment. Monkey skins = Victim becomes bouncy and appears slightly drunk. Gorilla skins = Drum sound travels 4x its normal sound range. Lion skins = Victim becomes filled with pride and surety. Snake skins (played with brushsticks) = Victim produces smooth moving, rocking bodies or feels the sandman come upon him. This was supposed to be a serious spell, but then I got silly… Squirrel skins = victim becomes vacant minded and, well, squirrely. Gator skins = victim might flop down on their backs and waggle their legs in the air. What are some other skin affects? Rhino skins = Dragon skins = Toad skins =

Re: Those Devil Drums
this is great. I lived in Hawai'i for a lot of my life and a Samoan friend of mine had a big drum made from a hollowed-out log. They used it at church to gather people - it sounded great and had really versatile sounds depending on where you hit the drum. It totally could have been magic!
Looked a little like the one in the photo on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pate_(instrument) |
