Default Orc: Do I have to remind for winning level?

Short story: I was level 8 with a total combat strength of 20. I faced a level 3 monster. No one said they were going to do anything but HAD known I was an Orc for most of the game. I declared victory pointing out I was an Orc, after I put the monster in the discard pile. They said "no you have to tell someone if you're going to get the winning level" and and then proceeded to play a boatload of monster enhancers.

I call shenanigans. I think I won. I should not have to tell anyone the Orc ability when they know what it does perfectly fine.

Thoughts?

This is a matter for table ethics, not for rules. Some groups play friendlier games where it's expected that you will say, "Remember, I'm an Orc, so this is for the win"; others assume that people are paying attention and if the forget to ask about the Orc abilities, too bad.

I claimed I didn't have to tell anyone anything. And I wasn't using a sneaky trick like using a GUAL before the monster died. So I thought it was perfectly legit. The rest didn't think so. So I forced an Elf who was level 9 to help me (I was a Bard) and gave him the win to spite the rest.

So as far as I understand. That's a legitimate win. I didn't break any rules. They claimed I had to tell them. We also NEVER play friendly games. It's as cut-throat as it gets.

Then you need to have a discussion with the rest of your group before the next time you play to see if you're all on the same page. I'm assuming this is not the first time your group has played with the Orc.
