Default OGRE Battle Box as First Purchase

Hi! I played OGRE last year, and I've been thinking about getting it since. I want to get the Battle Box so I can have the miniatures to paint, but I'm not sure if it has everything I'd want. The page on Warehouse 23 doesn't say it includes the map overlays. Does it include them, and if it doesn't how much do I need them? Am I better off just buying the 6th edition and one of the miniatures sets? Is there anything else I'd be missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't recall there being terrain overlays in Battle Box, you don't really need them but it can add variety to your games. The map in Battle Box in unmounted so if you were to buy Battlefields the BB map will be some difference in the map's height. If you want the Orange Map you'll have to but 6th ed, or find a copy of ODE or the older edition of Ogre Miniatures with an unmounted Orange map.

I have the Battlebox (three of them, actually) and this is what you get in the box.
Minis Set 1
Minis Set 2
G1 map on slick, heavy paper
Latest version of OGRE rules 6th edition
Scenario booklet
1 D6
One sheet of counters including:
2 train counters
2 CRSMSLCRWLs
1 Cruise Missile
A variety of building, SP and dummy counters
A variety of "damaged", "road cut" and "disabled" counters
1 hex overlay with a crater on one side and a shattered bridge over water on the other side.

Woodchuck is spot on about the differences in map heights.

To me, the Battlebox is both the perfect starter set AND a set for someone already familiar with OGRE and wants to field a large miniature army on a budget. But if you want as much variety as possible, then I would recommend Getting 6th edition and Battlefields. THEN a Battlebox to beef up your forces with lots of awesome minis.

I haven't bought any of the ODE/6E cardboard sets. Minis and neoprene mats for me! I've made some overlays with felt and magic markers, using a plastic hex stencil to mark and cut them to shape.
