Re: What is your Rarest Car Wars item?
A whole bunch of Car Wars lead miniatures, plus other company's CW scale figures.
AADA lapel pin. Thunder Road, a Milton Bradley boardgame. A bunch of Krash lead. Krash was a Hot Wheels scale CW-type game. While they sold cars (that didn't fit together well), they also sold lots of weapons that could be glued onto Hot Wheels. Were there CW choose-your-own adventure books? I think I have some. Car Warriors comic books. |

Re: What is your Rarest Car Wars item?
Yes. there were Car Wars interactive novels. Although not affiliated with Car Wars, there was also one Fighting Fantasy Gamebook that focused on car combat.
The late Joe Dever, author of the Lone Wolf Gamebook Series, wrote a four-volume post-apocalyptic gamebook series titled Freeway Warrior. The Freeway Warrior Gamebooks are currently being reprinted as hardback books. Although it did not feature car combat, the Choose Your Own Adventure title The Race Forever might be a fun Car Wars gamebook if its encounters were modified to have roleplaying and car combat. Car Wars Adventure Gamebooks 1. Battle Road 2. Fuel's Gold 3. Dueltrack 4. Badlands Run 5. Green Circle Blues 6. Mean Streets Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks 13. Freeway Fighter Freeway Warrior Gamebooks 1. Highway Holocaust 2. Slaughter Mountain Run 3. The Omega Zone 4. California Countdown

The quality of the books is typical of paperbacks of the day and my copies are looking a bit fragile currently (and we look after books). That may also contribute to the rarity of decent copies. They aren't really CW either as you don't actually set up the counters and use CW rules to play the game (they have their own "CW themed" rules). The background info is sort of fun and some of the ideas crossed over with the main game (e.g. anti-laser foam) - not sure which came first though. The CW scenarios that some of them spawned from (or into) are a better fit as they at least use CW rules. Last edited by swordtart; 07-18-2018 at 04:09 AM. Reason: price check |

Re: What is your Rarest Car Wars item?
The vintage game market is currently INSANE. I'm taking advantage of it to liquidate my BattleTech collection. Aside from the miniatures - which go up tomorrow on eBay - I'm at a very nice net profit from just three lots of not-so-uncommon books.
