Re: [DF] Sewer Monsters
Giant slugs, giant conesnails (adventurers think it's funny until the snail launches toxic armor-penetrating shell-made harpoons at them.
Normal frogs can't survive in the polluted environment but freaky giant mutant demon sludge frogs should be fine. Some African frogs can bite your fingers off, and they're smaller than a football (either kind). A frog that's big enough to stuff you in its mouth like you're a bite-size snack means serious business. Salamanders (the amphibian kind) are also sensitive to toxins, but giant albino salamanders make for an entertaining replacement for albino crocodiles. And with them being albinos, you can't tell they're giant TOXIC salamanders :) Slimes, oozes, jellies, molds, and fungal monstrosities of all sorts are good choices too. You'll also find people in the sewers. Some are paid to be down there, some can't find any better place to shelter, some are eeking out a living self-employed, and possibly a lucky few don't have a sense of smell. People being paid are probably down there to shovel out blockages, or to repair the sewers brickwork after giant rats burrowed through the walls and adventurers exploded the sewer gas. Self-employed folks will be picking through the much for things that got dropped or washed down the drains. You're more "realistically" going to find mammalian scavengers than reptiles in the sewers, but rats are overdone. What about raccoons? regular raccoons are about the size of a giant rat, giant raccoons can be as big as you want. And of course dogs, on account of there being dogs all over the place in most towns.

Re: [DF] Sewer Monsters
A recent adventure of mine (loosely written up on the DFRPG forum) featured a variety of coleopterans in the undercity. Can't have too many bugs.
I have a particular liking for Otyugh variations in sewers. Haunted sewers can be interesting too, with a cranky ghost or poltergeist that needs to be appeased, captured, or exorcized. |

Re: [DF] Sewer Monsters
It's the only quest I can remember from that game... specifically because of the way the Guard kept asking and asking for help, day after day his hew and cry went out no matter how times people completed that quest.
I always wondered just how large his family was and just how incompetent of a father to lose every daughter the same way... |

Re: [DF] Sewer Monsters
Some people it's better not to fight: the Mud Mob. They're mostly Lizard Men, and they run a fine sewerage-based protection racket ("Ooo, that could block up real easy, guv. The siphon effect round 'ere can give you wicked blowback. $20/month, and we'll make sure nothing goes wrong wiv it."). They also have a business in out-of-sight transportation in Town, especially of bodies from the cheap graveyard to the basements of necromancers.

Dire Skunk The origin of dire skunks is uncertain; possibly a wizard with extremely poor taste. Dire skunks are not particularly aggressive, but they are nearly fearless and generally assume that if they want something, they can take it and no-one will argue. Fortunately, most dire skunks aren't interested in much more than food, so if PCs are willing to stand still while a skunk the size of a bear goes through their packs and steals all their food, they can avoid fighting. Unfortunately, some rare dire skunks have acquired an eye for shiny things, and many adventurers are unwilling to be robbed in this way, which results in conflict. Statistics: as per a Bear, but remove Grapple and add Stench (13): 2 yard radius, usable 6x/day. Anyone exposed suffers the following effects:

Gnomco's
Ironically ordinary cats are too smart to go down into a DFRPG sewer. |
