Bought, downloaded, and reading now. :-)
(And tossed a little more money SJ Games' way, buying 01-03 of Vol 1 of Pyramid...)

I'm glad we could finally get it into your hands, then! And I'm very curious to know if it lives up to your anticipation. Once you've had a chance to read it, would you critique how well it matched up to the perfect version you've been envisioning all this time? :)

Re: [New Release] GURPS Thaumatology: Chinese Elemental Powers
This is the one I've been looking forward to for the longest time as well. Bought it, read it, enjoyed it. The only thing that really sticks out is the Ultimate Blade perk, which seems overpowered (+1 to damage with blades for a single character point), but that's probably because the weapon qualities themselves are overpowered, rather than a problem with the perk. I like how the Control abilities are presented here; they seem easy to use.

Re: [New Release] GURPS Thaumatology: Chinese Elemental Powers
Initial thoughts: I like that this takes Chi powers and spices them up a bit. They were looking a bit bland after the Powers books on Psi and Divine Favor. Having visions of figuring out how to apply these concepts in Dungeon Fantasy, Monster Hunters, maybe if you could draw up a list of Imbuements associated with each element like that one Pyramid article did for psionic imbuements.
OTOH, not sure how I feel about the fact that, on these rules, Forceful Chi and Inner Balance no longer seem to act as power talents. For a character who wants the full range of power talents, seems like a bit of a burden to require at least one (expensive!) talent for chi skills, and a different one for chi abilities. Seems like you could have done something to preserve their power talent function in a way that would mesh with this system. But I'm typing this late at night so maybe the way that was handled makes more sense than my tired brain realizes. |

Re: [New Release] GURPS Thaumatology: Chinese Elemental Powers
Forceful Chi and Inner Balance took a far simpler, two-pronged approach to chi. This book takes a five-pronged approach. There's really no easy way to correlate the two.

No. I had forgotten about that one.
