True, but the shrink stuff has a nice solid feel to it

Good idea.
I am impressed. If you're looking for an easy way to cut them may I suggest a Brother Scan and Cut. Even the CM250 will cut up to 1.5mm while later model will do 2mm materials. Basically vector scans pretty much anything.

I think if you were going to do a flat counter with no stats on it, an overhead view of the unit (such as you see with the ODE counters) would look better. It would really be almost like having flat miniatures at that point.

Also, the stand-up counters are cool, and they make maneuvering the units a lot easier than flat counters. But unless your hexes are ginormous, they make stacking units a PITA.

I find the profile and 3/4 ground views better than overhead, as the units have more unique silhouettes than they do top-down appearance.

I fully agree. I don't like the ODE counters at all, chiefly for that reason (but also the wacky shape).

I never use the word iconic but it fits here: the original silhouettes are iconic, and never to be topped as representations of the units..

Which is why the classic counter set is awesome :-)

Which is why I bought it already! The classic counters are too iconic to be ignored, even from newbies like myself.

And I can remember putting those counters together on a little light table . . .
