I might put paladin/Holy Warriors in; it's mostly spell-casting clerics I have an issue with.

With a race of incredibly strong little people who're smarter on average than every other race, I'm not sure you're very "generic" to start with. -GEF

The generic fantasy setting would have some sort of Church, similar to Christianity, especially in motifs, but never explicitly defined as Christianity. So, you have churches, priest, services and so forth, but you somehow avoid all of the details.

What makes a serious campaign setting is: detail which then affects the investment of the gm and players. The more investment the more serious. DF when invested heavily can be very serious, as much as any setting. Same can be said with any setting, like OOTs, that of KOTDT setting.

I'm pretty sure the comedy is just the style of the text. Nothing requires you to play Dungeon Fantasy as a tongue-in-cheek munchkin.

This sounds interesting. I like the idea of having a Christian church in a fantasy setting because it seems more authentic than having the people worship Glorp the Good or other made up gods. I would also like having some pagan gods like Zeus, Thor and so on as well.

I also like the idea of removing halflings from the setting because I agree that gnomes can easily fill the role.

Well, don't get me wrong: actually I like to hear opinions like this.

Sure, I think I got your point: to my mind it is enough to just discard spell casting and/or miracle working priest-like character types –discarding them at the very least as character options for players.

I mentioned the inclusion of Sanctity because such element would be needed for having saints, holy men, relics and such things in a setting like the one you're talling about, even as NPCs and fluff, vague elements: its hard to imagine a christian-like religion without saints and holy lands/places (hearths of sanctity).

A setting without clerics and a pantheon of some stripe seems Very Non Generic

A setting which is Medieval Europe and has Christianity also seems Very Non Generic

A setting which is 'Sorta Medieval Europeish and set in the land of Good King Florp and where people worship the Generic Deity of Goodness' seems cool, but once you have Christianity and the Holy Roman Empire or whatever, genericness goes out the window and you instead have alternate history or whatnot instead of Fantasy

I mostly agree with these points, but nevertheless that seems to be the desired setting of the OP.
