Pretty sure there are stats for a gryphon in the Basic Set too. All they're missing is damage and they're good to go as DF monster stat blocks.

I've noticed that DF monsters with analogs in other supplements are just a touch bigger, tougher, and often with an extra shtick. Harpies get the scream attack to trigger a fear check, for example. I would beef up gryphons a bit, maybe even move them up one SM. I might give them a shriek that causes stun or something, too, for when they dive.

I saw a few small typos on my read-through, and Steven posted in the W23 thread that they'd corrected Medusa's traits to Unkillable 1.

I'm inclined to say that Infravision/Ultravsion/Darkvision are still vision (absent an interesting special effect) and still count, but e.g. Scanning Senses, precise Detects, or Smell upgraded to be a precise targeting sense (as per Enhanced Senses) don't.

Except possibly ladar, which is kind of like seeing in a funny way.
I believe this has come up before, and from what I remember Infravision doesn't need light to work, so it wouldn't trigger the Medusa's curse, it's basically a 'psychic' power that allows you to see in the dark.

That's... a very strange interpretation of "infravision". Is that some sort of D&D thing?

The Basic Set description opens up with "You can see into the infrared portion of the spectrum, allowing you to detect varying degrees of heat." - That's the electromagnetic spectrum - that's light. It's light below the human vision range, but it's still light.

Sorry, confusing it with Dark Vision. I think that's the area where a revised edition would be useful, with all the rules advancements we've had for rules like these a revision would put them in a single document with clear marking

Just for curiosity, how much is worth this limitation? I don't remember seeing a value for this kind of situation (decapitation) in any book.

I'd call it "common" as it is an option to almost anyone with a cutting weapon, which isn't very hard to find for the kind of people that might be fighting a medusa, and that would make it worth -50% according to basic set.

Decapitation would be Occasional - it's effectively "Vulnerability (Cutting attacks to the neck)." GURPS Horror has some notes about this on p. 58.
