They're four hexes in size, and only have the strength of a bear, or a little more than a horse or deer?

And in order to use their only somewhat-capable attack, they need to drain that away.

And what about their 2d-2 claw attack?

Assuming the dragon just lays down and waits to be slaughtered. Otherwise, maybe he has the wizard for lunch while he's drawing his pentagram.

Clearly, you can 'theory-craft' your way out of any box (or dragon's lair), but I think we've strayed a bit from my original question. There's got to be a couple folks on here who tried to tackle one of these beasties in an actual game setting at some point over the last 40 years. Epic wins or epic fails welcome!

Sorry, but I can't help you with that one. We never got that close to one and for most of the time, our GM was content to only throw the occasional seven hex one at us.

Has a decorative collar that he wears with a number of gemstones of great value. 5 are significant.
One gem has Diamond Flesh on it, self-powered, always on.
A second gem has Reverse Missiles on it, self-powered, always on.
Third gem has Spell Shield on it, self powered, always on.
the fourth gem is a Powerstone 20 ST
and the fifth, well, who knows.
I think instead of a Powerstone, the 14-Hex Dragon would have a Staff V/Staff of Mastery.

The Staff V would give the 14-Hex Dragon:
  • 48 St “powerstone” (when charged up.)
  • Allow the dragon to strike a figure 2 hexes away, at IQ 27. Except as a Staff of Power it doesn’t even need to roll to hit & it’s a free action. It can do it while doing anything else… Like flying or flaming.
  • The staff can’t crit fail, can’t force it to drop or break.
  • It bypasses armor.
  • The remote damage is 1d+ 2

This has been revised in the new rules.

If you want to make dragons deadly then don't use the claws. Four hex dragon doesn't extend its claws and simply strikes you with its untrained ST 30 paw for 1d+3 damage. 7-hex: 4d+1. 14-hex: 8d+1

I got this data from the ITL Legacy Proof PDF. Is there a newer STAFF rules than that? I'm probably out of the loop on that.

I feel like I seriously don't understand how some people play this game!
