That's true, and shamanic communication with spirits would be a more important and regular occurrence than parlor seances. As you point out, it does matter quite a lot what the nature of the game world is, and in theory the spirits could play a large role indeed. The mediumship talent could just as easily go to a ghost-talker or other kind of shaman who is in rapport with the spirits of ancestors and/or nature spirits.
