Of course a lot of those concepts are near universal.

Shinto isn't Chinese.

It is, hence my suggestion that Chinese animistic traditions be read in where the Chinese are concerned.

Most fantasy dwarves however seem to be Northern European in flair. They often have all that stuff mentioned about ancestor veneration, reciprocity, and totemism(usually they make a bigger deal then elves about craftsmanship, and they like geological things better then biological). The fact is a lot of all that stuff isn't distinctly Asian; it is it's local aesthetic that marks it.

I've always preferred dwarf women to have beards, considering Pratchett's version an affirmation of my tastes rather than any sort of unexpected twist. Their marriage rites really struck a cord with me so I decided to appropriate those for my own dwarven culture. Of course, my world's dwarven culture is about half human/dwarf hybrids and contains many other citizens who are in whole or in part minotaur or dragon (all my cultures are melting pots to some extent or another, allowing excuses for players to modularly buy any genetic template and cultural template combination they want).

It would make them different from other apes as even among chimps, males have more facial hair than females. When given mirrors, more than a few females will use it to help pluck chin hairs. Of course I remember one giant male that used it to put on lipstick, so not all gender assumptions are true, of course.
It is fun to play with that kind of thing for non-humans.

Has anyone made a eusocial species without one or more groups being cannon fodder property?
