Default I think I got ripped off...

This seems obvious, but is what happend,

- I was at Lv7 and had 2 GUAL cards on my hand,
- I got in a battle that I could not win,
- I asked help and I got it,
- Then, in battle, I used the 2 GUAL cards for the win,
- My friend suggested to my other friend (the helper), that she could change her mind about helping
-It sounded absurd to me. But I could not find anywhere in the rules, anything that said otherwise....
-So, she just gave up on helping, and I died....

Is that legal?

Thanks for the help!

No, it's not legal. Once another player agrees to help you, they're in the combat for the long haul and cannot leave it -- not without using some sort of special ability or card that says they can (such things exist).

There's nothing in the rules allowing a helper to leave. In fact, the ability for a helper to leave would invalidate the point of what to do when you and a helper can't defeat the Monster(s). Once the Monster side becomes too difficult to face, a helper could just decide to leave and then why bother determine how they are supposed to Run Away? We have that set of instructions for a reason, and it enforces the notion that once the helper and the main combatant agree, they have to do their best to complete their agreement the best way possible given the circumstances. That doesn't mean that the helper can't try to throw the combat by beefing up the Monster side with one-shot Items and Monster Enhancers, and that doesn't mean that the player whose turn it is can't find a (legal) way to "rob" the helper of all the Treasure he thought he was going to get, but that definitely does mean that a) the helper can't leave, and b) the helper can't be forced to leave without special extenuating circumstances (e.g., a card which removes a helper, or using an ability to force a helper to join the combat without a choice that says it can't be used for the Winning Level).
