Default Gaming Ballistic - GURPS Content Posts

From Gaming Ballistic, on Thursday, July 18, 2013

Welcome to Melee Academy! Today is also GURPS-Day, which makes it an auspicious day! The topic for today is making use of ranged weapons. I talk about weapon selection and tactics. Peter V. Dell'Orto discusses not wasting shots by using enfilade fire, Mark Langsdorf holds forth on room entry and clearing in DF using ranged weapons, with an extensive example, and Christopher Rice gives us some lessons on Ritual Path Magic when you're out of charms. We'll see what else is on deck, but grab your bow, span your crossbow, and Ready your atlatl . . . and see what havoc we can wreak!

Took me a bit to get my link up. I've had some ISP troubles today. Here is the permalink.

New content up on Gaming Ballistic.

***
It's a good week. Not only was yesterday Melee Academy, but it also saw this awesome issue of Pyramid.

Even if you don't play GURPS, this has something for you, from a detailed (looks like 10,000+ words!) look at the loadout of a Modern Warfighter, covering the Mi-24V Hind helicopter in enough detail to virtually build one, to a fictional company that sells very interesting hardware to very interesting people. Also in this one is a look at the historical Nock Volley gun, as well as . . . interesting ammo for monster hunting and magic.

I also wrote a totally GURPS-centric article about dodging firearms.

Every single article is worth reading this time. What are you waiting for?

New GURPS content is up at Gaming Ballistic.

Pyramid #3/57 - Modern Warfighter: Gear
This is an article-by-article review of Pyramid #3/57: Gunplay. While I don't usually do this, the subject matter of this issue is just what this blog ordered, and even if one of my own articles is in it, I really think every article, and nearly every word, of this issue is worth reading. So, a series of (hopefully) shortish posts.

I also had two Pathfinder-related items, an actual play report and a bit of navelgazing about choosing art to spice up blog posts

...awesome; even as someone who has played GURPS for a little while now, I find the DF posts to be helpful. A lot of times, I know what advice I want to give to my players, but I'm not always entirely sure how to put it into words. Plus, since I'd say I'm less experienced with DF, there have been some posts that have really helped me out from the DM side of the table.

Actual Play: DF Jade Regent - The Pit of Frozen Guys

After we found the cleft in the wall from last game, we decided that we needed to just walk into trouble. So we followed the pathway up, whereupon Cadmus, still under the influence of being Pharasmically drunk or something, bumps into a wall, revealing a secret passage. What happened next was a pretty epic combat where some of our shortcomings were almost painted in blood.

Thursday is GURPS-Day, and I respond to a comment in last week's Melee Academy (on ranged weapons) thinking about GURPS' resolution mechanics for rapid fire.

I continue the article-by-article review of Pyramid #3/57: Gunplay. The subject matter of this issue is just what this blog ordered, and even if one of my own articles is in it, I really think every article, and nearly every word, of this issue is worth reading. Today I look at The Devil's Chariot - basically 'everything you could ever want to know about the Mi-24V "Hind" helicopter. I mean everything.

Devil's Chariot was the catnip for me. Buying Hans' research at a reasonable price is almost always a good idea.

Ken's article was very good too since it's been 6 years since HT was finished.

I review my own article from Pyramid #3/57, called "Dodge This." It breaks down the rules for Active Defenses vs. fast (and slow) projectiles, gives help for the rule that you can only defend against an attack that you're "aware of," and gives the penalty to Dodge a laser. No, really.
